Established under the Law Reform Commission Act of 1994, the commission has the following core mandates:
We systematically review existing laws, regulations, and legal practices to determine their relevance and effectiveness in the contemporary context.
Based on our reviews, we provide recommendations for legal reforms, including the amendment, repeal, or introduction of new laws and regulations.
Our team conducts in-depth research and analysis of legal issues, often comparing Sierra Leone's legal framework with global best practices.
We collaborate with government agencies, legislative bodies, and other stakeholders to implement recommended reforms.
We operate independently, free from political interference, to maintain the objectivity and integrity of the law reform process.
We publish reports that outline our findings and recommendations. These reports serve as valuable resources for policymakers, legal professionals, and the general public.
